Amy Lynn Budd
Amy Lynn Budd wrote a term paper on 20th century fashion in 6th grade, made classmates cringe by wearing her granny’s brooches in the ‘80’s, and started reclaiming her mother’s ‘60’s wardrobe in 1990. She soon began studying Theatre at Indiana State University. Concentrating on directing and costume design, Amy discovered a constructive use for her obsession with old clothes. She even learned to refer to them respectfully as vintage. Eventually, Miss Budd’s need for glamour exploded out of the grungy ‘90’s in the form of Lady Miss Iris, Providence’s very first neo-burlesque performer and instructor. “The Lady” has been featured in The Boston Herald, FOX News Boston, The Providence Journal, Rhode Island’s Amazing Women on PBS and RI Monthly. Now retired from the variety circuit, “The Lady” trained most of the prominent burlesquers in the Providence scene and continues to direct Jingle Belles and a Few Balls, A Holiday Burlesque Extravaganza at Perishable Theatre each year. Miss Budd’s sharp eye for color & shape and her super-human safety-pinning & bow-tying skills take every Providence Pin-Up client to giddy joyous heights of gorgeousness. Her silly yet soothing manner coaxes marvelous poses out of the shyest pin-up to be. Miss Budd’s sartorial fabulosity has been featured in Providence Monthly’s “City Style” column. Her original performance work, The Thing That Ate My Brian…Almost was produced by Perishable Theatre, has toured to Washington DC and will appear in Austin, TX in January 2011
